Trailer Park: Rango

How great is that new Rango trailer? The Gore Verbinski-directed and Johnny Cage-starring furry friends CG animated flick seems fairly run-of-the-mill story-wise, but looks absolutely gorgeous.

Rango [Paramount]

After the horrible batch of 3D and animated trailers attached to Toy Story 3, seeing something as beautifully composed as this was definitely refreshing. The design is great and I love Depp’s lizard’s gangly features – he feels like he’s straight out of a Ralph Steadman painting and I swear he’s wearing a Hunter S. Thompson-esque shirt. I’d wager on at least one Fear and Loathing-referencing scene with the lizard wearing aviators and munching on a cigarette holder.

There are some extraordinarily trippy shots in this trailer, best seen on a humongous screen. Seeing this was the best part of going to see The Last Airbender on Friday.

Absolutely Gorgeous CG Deus Ex 3 Trailer

Here’s your daily reminder that E3 is coming up, along with all the requisite sexy trailers of games you won’t be playing for at least a year.

Is there a specific term for the synthy, future-y music used in Deus Ex, Mass Effect et al? Because I really can’t get enough of it.

PROS: protagonist’s fashion sense, stealth cloaky stuff, weapons and crap coming out of arms
CONS: silly newscaster’s future-victorian chic

Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be coming to PS3, 360 and PC sometime in 2011, which is incredibly depressing.

My Desk Is 8-bit by Alex Varanese

You know that stop-motion classic NES video that’s been making the rounds on the internets?

I can only take so many cute iPhone gags and I am an avid opponent of rampant Nintendo nostalgia (I can’t tell you how much I loathe the Zelda and Metroid franchises and everyone else’s UNDYING DEVOTION to them).

This, however, is gorgeous and far superior.

Enjoy:

Shrek Forever After Box Office Opening Disappoints, DreamWorks Stock Drops

Shrek Forever AfterDreamWorks’ stock plunged more than 13% this week after the very 3D and very expensive Shrek 4: Endgame stumbled at the box office this weekend. The weekend totals were just a hair over $70 million, the lowest opening for the franchise since the first Shrek. You know, Shrek, that movie that ended up raking in nearly $500 domestic + foreign. Shrek 4: The Revenge also cost nearly $100 million more than the original. Those numbers are even more galling when you consider the inflated 3D ticket prices and the panic over the possibility of crossing the $20 ticket threshold.

DreamWorks’ earlier animated effort this year, How to Train Your Dragon, managed via word-of-mouth READ MORE!
